Good article about articles! :)

In regards to your later comments (getting other people to write articles for you - and you own them) one site many ecommerce types use for this is elance.com . Putting out a tender for articles, particularly in bulk, can result in some fairly competent writers create articles to your speccs (keywords to target, keyword density, etc).

I believe the standard price being bandied about is $5 per article, but can likely get them much cheaper if ordering in bulk (maybe $3/article?). Of course you get what you pay for - accounting for caveat emptor, like any other transaction online - so paying $10 per article will result in something great, and $0.50 per article will be barely comprehensive. Also be sure to run the articles through copyscape or even some sentences in google to ensure the person didn't plaguerize it from somewhere else.

The other source you mention is finding free articles online to use (article directories or public domain resources). Along those same lines there's a real surge in people offering PLR (private label rights) articles all over the place.

These are usually packages of original articles related to a common theme that can be easily popped into a niche website, ebook, newsletter series, etc.

This usually is half way between public articles that can be found all over the net and having an original article written specifically for you, since *mnost* PLR offerings are to a limited number of customers. So you aren't competing with 1000s (or more) other websites featuring the same article, but more likely 50 or 100 (maybe 200) depending on how many sales they are limiting that article package for.

A search for "PLR articles" on google will reveal lots of info and resources.

And/or to find completely free niche articles to use, do a google search for:
article directories
where my resource page is currently #1. All ranked by Google PR and categorized with both 'submit' and 'view' links for each directory. :)

Hope that is of use to your readers, and thanks again for the article!

I agree with all your (concise) points above, and would add something to your first point: "Simply include a link back to your site or include your information in the resource box."

You can increase the chance someone will click on your rsource box link if you offer a free ebook or free newsletter or "click here for even more tips/information/resource/etc"... or otherwise something tantalizing to the reader that causes them to click on the link to visit your site. And once there, they should find a submission 'form' to sign up for your newsletter (and maybe get a free report?) so you can keep contact with them with the possibility of back-end sales.

And for those wanting to submit articles, I just *happen* to have a free resource that lists tons of free article directories where you can submit (or view) articles fairly quickly. If you have time, submit to as many as possible that relate to the topic of your article. If you don't have much time, concentrate on those sites with the highest indicated Google PR as they likely get the majority of traffic and also get spidered more frequently.

Check out my site by going to Google and typing in: article directories .
I'm (currently) #1. :)

Regards and thanks for the post - many new internet marketers (especially) would be helped by following the tips you've provided!

[...] Becoming an affiliate in an affiliate marketing program is often quick and easy, and for most affiliate programs, signing up is also free. But despite these and all the benefits being promised by affiliate programs, many people are still hesitant to get into affiliate marketing. One of the reasons why a lot of people remain hesitant is the lack of a website to start marketing his affiliate products with.
